Love and Friendship Specials: Anonymous Love Stories

10 0

The #sinrecato team is known for its talent and sensitivity, but it also stands out for being quite outgoing and curious, or rather, we’re gossipy here, and I think you are, too.

Many of us have heard stories about people we only know by name, like a friend’s uncle, a neighbor’s godmother, the manicurist’s sister, and so on.

And although we can’t give names, dates, or further details because we don’t know all the people involved, what we can share about these stories are the essential elements: the beginning, the middle, and the end.

Surprise Girlfriend. A friend told me this story that happened in her family. A cousin of hers was living in a small town with his girlfriend, and he came all the way to Barranquilla to officially introduce her to the family.

The girlfriend traveled with an aunt, an older, friendly woman. Lunch went smoothly, as did the weekend that followed: everyone was happy with my friend’s cousin’s girlfriend.

However, one uncle wasn’t convinced by “the girlfriend” and said: “From what I can tell, the real girlfriend is the ‘aunt.’” My friend told me that everyone was shocked by this, and they told him things like “how could you even think that?”, “you sound like a pervert”, etc., etc.

A month later, the truth came out, and the uncle was right: the girlfriend really was the aunt, not the niece. They’d done it all to keep up appearances because of the age gap, but in the end, everyone accepted her anyway, and they lived happily ever after.

The ultimatum. A friend’s nephew met his girlfriend on the Bumble app. They’d been messaging each other for a month until she gave him an ultimatum: “If we don’t meet soon, we might as well just call it quits.”

So without further ado, they arranged to meet on a Friday during Carnival season to finally meet in person, and on Saturday they went on their official date where they became a couple, amid the cornstarch and foam.

Since that date on February 18, 43 months have passed, that is, 3 years and 7 months of great happiness and love, as the couple themselves attest.

Thanks to the laptop. A friend’s cousin told me that her laptop had been broken for several months until someone recommended a place to get it fixed. The young technician did a good job, but it turned out that the computer broke again eight days later.

In light of this, the engineer suggested he could get her a new computer at a good price. Eight days later, he messaged her on WhatsApp, and in the middle of the negotiation, other topics came up, an invitation to the movies and the start of something else.

Coincidentally, this September marks their two-year anniversary of being happily together.

Motorized Cupid. Years ago, a friend of mine got in a serious motorcycle accident, so he had to spend several days in the hospital. The nurses took care of him every day, but one in particular kept visiting him without fail.

That’s right, amidst the treatments and medications, Cupid struck, and it was love at first sight: today they’re happily married.

Love at the Right Time. This story happened to me, and today I want to share it. I did my journalism internship at the ‘El Tiempo’ newspaper office in Barranquilla for three months, and there I met wonderful colleagues and also the love of my life, though I didn’t know it at the time.

Several years later, we ran into each other, started talking again, and after a night out at the movies and some pizza, we shared our first kiss. From that day on, we became inseparable, and this year we’re celebrating 24 years of happiness together with our wonderful daughters: Catalina and Lucianna.

We all have a unique and special love story that moves us when we remember it and even when we’re sharing it.

Of course, love doesn’t just appear magically; on the contrary, it’s built, transformed, and strengthened through both gray and sunny days, through tears and smiles, and through hardships and fond memories.

Love and Friendship and Valentine’s Day may be commercial holidays, but they’re also the perfect occasion to express our feelings for those we love and cherish most in our lives.

That’s why I’m raising a glass to celebrate more #sinrecato days with the people I love most, and I wish the same for all of you.
